See this morning for prime and incontestable proof. Let teams push the boundaries to make cars that are truly the best representations of what cars can be? Nope. Lets legislate the fuck out of them and stifle any innovation that the engineers and drivers come up with.

they have to level the playing field or the smart and talented might offend the weak and lame. as a rule-bender myself, you have to be double clever to not get caught.

Yeah it's a little bullshit that they limit the fuel like that. It means the drivers can't push it to the limits, which is sad.

As a stats major I can tell you that 77% of stats were pulled out of my ass. 23% were due to the margin of error, +/- 99%.
I don't know how the margin of error is calculated.

Its stupid. He didn't even know about it. So wtf?
Ban Red Bull from getting constructor points, but let the driver have his podium finish for crying out loud.

Dunno why people are so outraged by stuff that's been happening in F1 since time immemorial. Stripping points, places due to rules isn't anything new. Neither are fuel consumption limits (which were a part of the original Turbo Era of Formula 1 as well).

But he got to the podium because he used more power than the others. Most probably, if he was using a legal (sic!) amount of fuel he wouldn't have got there. This said, the 100kg/h rule is quite stupid, since it's based on the accuracy of reading of some sensor that can get out of calibration. If the Supremo really wants to save Gaia, he should put a seal on the throttle cables, like what we had on our mopeds when I was 14 y.o., so that the thing could not exceed the 40 km/h... first thing that we removed, the same day we got the moped, LOL.

This, this is exactly they should have done. Penalize the team, not the driver, for something that was beyond his control. Red Bull will claim that FIA's sensors were faulty and that theirs was under the legal limit, but the fact is other teams still raced by FIA's sensors, faulty or not.

I wish there was some way to estimate approximately where he'd be. He did a pretty good job driving, smooth, steady and without any noticeable mistakes. If the extra fuel flow was small enough that Red Bull though FIA might not notice, Ricciardo could've still slotted a third or fourth place. Button was running strong, but he didn't seem like he'd outpace the leaders.

Everyone else seemed to be able to get it right. It sounds like redbull knew they had an issue too. We shall see, but NONE of what happened this morning is new to F1. I remember one year, cars in the Canadian GP were disqualified afterwards because their brake ducts were too large. Same things happened back then.
This season is already looking much more exciting than years past. The shake up of the rules will do a lot of good for the sport and enforcing the rules/catching the bad cheaters is part of all forms of racing so I don't see what you have a problem with here.

The sport of Formula 1 hasn't been about making truly the best representations of what cars can be since...ever. That's like saying the NFL needs to allow players to use steroids, not wear safety equipment etc., because thats holding the league from being the best representation of what football can be.

What ?
It was the best race in a while.
They are all really out of their comfort zone and it is awesome.
I really dig the new engine sound, especially during downshifts, so awesome.
This is what f1 is about, engineering marvels.

Some people are new to F1 I guess...
I'm really happy with the new regulations.
The 2.4 V8 was the least interesting engine of the last 30 years.
Good riddance.

The boards over on Formula1blog are on fire over the new motors. Personally, I think they're amazing both their technological content and power delivery. As far as engine sound, everyone reading this would cream their pants if they heard that sound coming from anything other than an F1 car... That being said, I'd like to have seen a few extra engines per team in favor of higher RPMs, even if they'd have kept the RPM limit I really don't want this season to be decided by grid penalties from engine failures.
